The purpose of our Specialist Subject Program is to enrich your child’s learning.
Our school offers a variety of exciting and engaging programs designed to complement and enrich our students’ learning experience. These programs provide opportunities for students to explore new areas of interest, develop valuable skills, and broaden their horizons.
Music
Singing, playing, moving, listening and performing – music is loved and valued at Kerribana Primary School and all students visit the music room for a 60 minute lesson each week. In addition to this there are optional choir and band classes that offer musical extension. Many students also learn to play a musical instrument with Mr. Jeremy Kerr, who offers private tuition in music.
Art
Kerribana’s Art program is an integral part of the curriculum. Through the Arts, students express their understandings drawn from other areas of the curriculum. They explore experiences, ideas, emotions and understandings through making, interpreting, performing, creating and presenting. Learning in the Arts encourages the development of a wide range of skills – cognitive, emotional, sensory and aesthetic. We include dance as a core part of our Art Program, and participate in the Albury-Wodonga Eisteddfod School Section annually.
Auslan
All Victorian schools are required by legislation under the Education and Training Reform Act, 2006, to provide instruction in a language other than English. The Auslan program at Kerribana is a 60-minute weekly lesson. Students participate in comprehension and communication of the language.
The language is introduced through a general theme and reinforced through songs, games repetition of teacher-modelled language and a range of aural, oral and written tasks. Students see and use Auslan throughout the school, from our Assemblies into Maths, Literacy and more.
Physical Education
At Kerribana Primary School, we believe physical education is an essential part of a holistic education. Every week, our students participate in 60-minute physical education sessions, during which they learn important fundamentals of movement and physical activity. Our curriculum focuses on developing their knowledge and understanding of the body, as well as inclusive movement concepts, strategies and techniques to enhance their performance.
Science
All students from Prep to Year 6, engage with our specialist Science program, aligned to the Victorian curriculum.
Lessons are literacy-rich, hands-on, collaborative and fun. Lessons include observations, investigations, experiments, discussions, reading and viewing varied texts; and showing understanding through robotics, diagrams, labels, descriptions, role-plays, models and other representations. Connections to other curriculum areas like Maths, Engineering and Visual Arts are authentically and meaningfully integrated. By learning and practising science, students develop their curiosity and willingness to investigate the changing world they live in.
